The tourism began in Javea in the middle of years 60 thanks to the creation of a "Parador de Turismo" (Government owned hotels). The central point is Arenal beach, the unique sandy beach, although a great variety of beaches formed of different materials exists: "grava", "tosca" (rock) and stone. This variety, causes that the swimmer can enjoy several options when going to the beach, from relax of the sand, to the diving that offers rock beaches and coves, where you can enjoy the marine landscape.
Fiestas:
Subida del Jesús Nazareno - St Bartolome is the head of the parish, St Sebastian
is the Landlord of Javea, Jesus Nazareno is the perpetual mayor of Jávea. This
image, during almost all the year is in the hermitage of the Calvary, small
church that can be seen on the town with a cupola of blue color in which is the
highway that goes towards Denia (through Montgó and the St Antonio cape). The
Third Sunday of lent, a procession is realised, and Jesus Nazareno is deposited
in the church of St Bartolome in the center of the town, where it is venerated
until the 3 of May, that is local celebration and is when Jesus Nazareno returns
again to the hermitage finishing the procession at night with launching a
fireworks castle. The previous days was celebrated several contests and event of
gratuitous governmental function and, emphasizing "cruces" of the 2 of May,
where whole streets collaborate their neighbors to create a cross, formed
generally of flowers that are awarded according to their elaboration,
originality and beauty
St. Juan - St Juan: They are the major celebration and they are celebrated at
the end of the month of June, is celebrated, concretely day 24, St Juan, called
" fogueres" (not to confuse with fallas of valence although they are similar)
with at least 15 days before small events that celebrates the "peñas" (friendly
groups), being the last five days before 24 the stronger days.
Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians)- It is celebrated concretely at the
end of July and in the zone of the port, when the Moors and Chistian
headquarters are open, realising public events, it finish with parades showing
to the different bands of Moors and Christians. The history happened for many
years is recreated with escenes like the moor invasion, taking the Christian
castle, …
Virgen del Loreto - It is celebrated exclusively in Port of Jávea, that finishes
8th September. Like of St Juan, days before popular events are celebrated
